Eight local men guilty of various drug offences

JUDGE Brian O’Shea generated more than €1,000 in contributi­ons for the Cornmarket Project as first time drug offenders volunteere­d to pay up rather than incur conviction­s.

Samuel Fidler (21) from Ash House, Glendoyne, Courtown, came to court ready to stump up €300 for Cornmarket. The scaffolder who hopes to travel to Canada was caught with €100 worth of cocaine on Fort Road. ‘You have had a narrow escape today,’ the judge told him.

Tony Larkin (21) of 3 Oakwood, Ramstown, Gorey, was found to have €20 worth of cannabis herb at Gorey Main Street on May 2. He was of limited means, his solicitor pleaded, but he was prepared to pay €150 by March 18

Kevin Behan (27) of 13 Willow Park, Gorey, had €120 worth of cocaine at Centenary Place on January 19. The court was told that he had €150 ready to hand over and that he had a job lined up in Canada. The judge confirmed that the money should go to Cornmarket.

Conal Sheridan (27) of 62 Hazelwood, Gorey, agreed to find €150 by February. He had €60 worth of cannabis herb in Hazelwood on April 30 earlier this year.

Ross Wade (22) from Kyle, Oulart, had an opportunit­y to go to the United States. He had €10 worth of cannabis seized by gardaí at Esmonde Street on April 17 and his travel prospects were preserved as he undertook to make a €100 donation.

Dylan O’Connor (20) of 43 Sean Doire, Gorey, had €10 of cannabis at Gorey Town Park on March 12. He pleaded guilty and agreed to make a €150 donation by February 19.

James Power (31) of 22 Springdale Park, Clonattin village, Gorey, was found to have cannabis in two forms to a total value of €40 in Hunter’s Green on February 27. He indicated that €200 will be forthcomin­g by February 19.

Gavin O’Sullivan (35) of 25 Sean Browne Court in Enniscorth­y flew home from Canada to plead guilty to possession of €20 worth of cannabis resin confiscate­d from him in Templeshan­non on February 26. He was willing to pay €150 to the Cornmarket Project.

The eight cases, all brought against male defendants, raised a total of €1,350 for the drug treatment programme.
