BEAUTY AND THE BEAST: The Gorey Little Theatre annual pantomime returns for 2020 with the tale as old as time when Beauty and the Beast is staged starting from Friday, January 10 to January 18, with performanc­es at 8 p.m. nightly and matinees at 3 p.m. with availabili­ty remaining still. There will be no performanc­es on the evening of Sunday, January 12 due to bingo, and tickets for the first four performanc­es are €13 with the final five performanc­es being €16. Tickets are selling fast, but mid-week performanc­es on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday still have plenty of seats. Get your tickets now to avoid disappoint­ment. Tickets are available from gr8events.ie, goreytheat­re.ie or by contacting Gorey Little Theatre directly at the premises on Pearse street, Gorey. The pantomime is directed by Alan Corcoran, with musical directors including Fintan Cleary and Mandy O’Callaghan alongside Frances Ryan as choreograp­her. The full cast look forward to welcoming familiar faces this time around for what promises to be top quality entertainm­ent.

THE LEGEND OF LUKE KELLY: One of Ireland’s finest musical talents will be celebrated at the National Opera House on Saturday night as Chris Kavanagh and his band present The Legend of Luke Kelly at the National Opera House. A multi-instrument­alist, Chris is well known for his passionate performanc­es and he has even performed with the Dubliners to mark their 50th anniversar­y in Vicar Street. The band, consisting of Chris, Joe Finn (Uileann Pipes), Michael Howard (guitar/vocals) and Hilary Kavanagh (bass/vocals) has toured all over the world, offering a faithful recreation of some iconic tunes from the master. SOCIAL DANCE: The next date for social dancing in Oylegate Community Centre is Sunday, January 12. Music on the night will be provided by the hugely popular duo, Teddy and Cathal Barry, who will be making a very welcome return to the village. The night will provide the ideal way to kick-start 2020 in addition to being a great social event for the local community. Dancing will be from 9.30 p.m. and admission will be €8.

MOTIV8 2020: A fitness initiative will begin in Rathnure this week aimed at helping people adopt a healthier lifestyle this year. Registrati­on for Motive8 2020 will take place in Rathnure Hall at 8 p.m. on Friday, January 10. It will provide the ideal way to work off the excesses of the festive season while at the same time providing a great social outlet as well. The organisers are encouragin­g everyone in the community to get involved.

JACK AND THE BEANSTALK: For over 50 years the Wexford Pantomime Society has brought magic and wonder to generation­s of Wexford Children and that will be the aim once again as they bring their production of Jack and the Beanstalk to the Dun Mhuire stage from Monday January 6 until Sunday, January 12. Bringing a Wexford twist to a classic tale, it promises to be a magical night out for all the family. The show opens at 8 p.m. nightly with matinee performanc­es at 2.30 p.m. on January 11 and 12. SHARON SHANNON AND FRIENDS: An evening of music and song with Sharon Shannon, Frances Black and Mary Coughlan as part of their nationwide tour takes place in the Ashdown Park Hotel in Gorey on January 11. Each artist will perform a set with their own musicians featuring many of their greatest hits, and after this all three lads will then join together on stage to finish the night off with a truly magical finale which is a must see. In what promises to be a unique night for all music fans, tickets costing €30 may still be available on request from the hotel reception.

SLEEPING BEAUTY: Sleeping Beauty is the 2020 production from New Ross Pantomime Society, a first for the society in its 101 year history. The show begins on Saturday, January 11 and runs until Saturday, January 18 with shows at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. and tickets priced at €12 and €10 respective­ly. Come see Prince Philip search for his Princess Aurora; meet King Stefan, Queen Clara and King Hubert. The fairies, three good and one not so good, who goes by the name of Maleficent. Beware the Big Bad Wolf, and cheer on the most traditiona­l of Panto stars, the Panto Dame. A show full of laughs, music, dance and larger-than-life characters, a great night’s entertainm­ent is assured.
