Gardaí appealing for witnesses regarding Market Square incident

- By CATHY LEE

GARDAI in Gorey are appealing for witnesses who were in the vicinity of Market Square last Monday night to come forward.

A serious incident between a male and female took place at approximately 9.30 p.m. on Monday, December 6, and Gardai are actively investigating all aspects of the alleged anti-social behaviour.

Gardai wish to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident. They are particularly keen to speak with the individual who recorded the incident on their phone.

‘We would ask those who were in the vicinity of Market Square between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. and witnessed the anti social behaviour to make contact with us,’ said Sgt Stephen Ennis of Gorey Garda Station.

‘This is obviously not behaviour we condone, and it is a matter we are investigating from a number of different perspectives. We are particularly appealing to those who videoed it and we’d like to speak to whoever recorded it.

‘This is a sensitive case of public indecency, but in order to prosecute the behaviour contained in the video, we need evidence,’ said Sgt Stephen Ennis. ‘We will do our best to investigate it from every aspect,’ he said.

CCTV has also been obtained from nearby locations in the town.

Later that same evening at about 10 p.m., a woman was taken from the Market Square area to Wexford General Hospital in what gardaí described as a ‘very intoxicated state’ as a result of both drugs and alcohol.

She has since been released from hospital.
