Comedy Club holds its first show

- By CATHY LEE

GOREY COMEDY CLUB made its 2020 debut at the Ashdown Park Hotel with plenty of tricks, tales and laughs from two legends of Irish comedy, Dancing with the Stars’ own Fred Cooke with resident MC Karl Spain.

The night began with Karl making introductions to the crowd and setting out what Gorey is to expect over the coming months, and within minutes he got on to first name terms with some of the budding audience members.

It was all about making that ever important first impression, but it was clear to see that Spain was a likeable character among the crowd and he soon got to know a bit more about Gorey, its characters and big players during his set when he was welcomed as an equal.

After a short interval, the loveable Fred Cooke came to the stage in a dazzling dance costume with his trustee guitar in hand.

His set was unique and involved story telling, classic songs and everything in between, taking some twists and turns along the way.

It was light hearted and the crowd were happy to hear some exclusive stories from the last season of Dancing With The Stars and this new experience for Fred, one he is clearly quite proud of.

The real highlight of the evening came unexpectedly at the conclusion, when the two comedians shared the stage and it was clear to see the great chemistry and relationship between them as the laughs were continuous.

Next for Gorey Comedy Club will see I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here 2019 star Andrew Maxwell take to the stage on Friday, March 7 at the Ashdown Park Hotel with Karl Spain back for a second round.

The club are in the process of planning more events for the coming year, just search ‘Gorey Comedy Club’ on Facebook for updates.

Tickets for Andrew Maxwell are available now for €25 from the hotel reception or from ticketstop.ie.
