TIDY VILLAGE APPEAL

Over the Christmas holidays some volunteers from the Boolavogue Tidy Village group picked up rubbish from the road verges between Boolavogue and the Grotto, filling an astounding four bags of rubbish. They were surprised at the amount of lotto tickets strewn along the way and also at the amount of alcohol bottles, wine, beer and spirits, that they found. They are appealing to those who discard rubbish from cars to consider bringing their litter home with them.

Cable ties left on poles after the recent bye-election also continue to mar the area. After the election, one householder had an amount of posters strewn on their lawn, enough to fill an extra large rubbish sack. It was also noted that while almost all the candidates removed their posters promptly, this was done by simply tearing them down, leaving leaving the unsightly cable-ties clinging to the poles. They ask that in future, candidates ensure that the ties are removed as well.

The group hopes to ramp up its activity over the next few months and already has plans for extensive flower displays around the area. They also hope to continue with their annual 2km clean-up, done in association with Wexfore County Council. SOCCER NEWS

On Sunday, January 5, the Men’s ‘A’ team were away to Crossabeg and thanks to deft footwork and intelligent passing from Mick Sweeney, Matthew Dunne finished a fine move to the net. After the break, they kept pressing for the second goal but time and time again were stymied by a tought Crossabeg defence. The hosts eventually levelled but the pressure our lads exerted eventually told and led to a corner. Again, Matthew Dunne was the man to beat the keeper leaving us 2-1 ahead with little time on the clock.

However, with less than five minutes remaining, Crossabeg were awarded a penalty. Niall Finn was not found wanting and pulled off a spectacular save to prevent the game going into extra time and give Cormac’s a deserved 2-1 win.

PARENT/TODDLER GROUP

The parent and toddler group was met up again on Wednesday, January 8, after the Christmas break. There was so much fun and so much to discuss, they could have stayed all day. They will continue to meet in Boolavogue

Hall for the rest of the term, each Wednesday.

SENIOR CITIZENS’ PARTY

Boolavogue Foróige Club’s senior and junior members are busy preparing for their annual senior citizens’ Party, which they will host in Boolavogue Hall on Sunday, January 26, at 1.30 p.m. Every senior citizen in the greater Boolavogue is invited to attend, and if perchance you qualify but don’t recieve an invitation, do please do come along and join in the festivities. There will be food, fine wines and spirits, great craic as well as singing, dancing and the telling of tall tales. For details please contact any Foróige member or leader.

MINISTERS OF THE WORD AND EUCHARIST.

There is no Minister for the Word on duty in St Cormac’s at the Vigil Mass at 8 p.m. on Saturday night, but Olive Burke will be helping distribute Holy Communion. At the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday morning, Marie Barne is the reader on duty with Kathleen Kehoe acting as Eucharistic Minister. for the afterschool club which will operate till 5 p.m. Pick up from St Joseph’s Primary school at 1.40 p.m. and 2.40 p.m. by our childcare team. MEN’S SHED

The Kilmuckridge Men’s Shed is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10.30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Call in any time during these hours have a coffee meet everyone and see some of the projects the group have made.
