Glass Asylum is a massive success

-

THE Presentation Centre in Enniscorthy played host to a special performance recently by Bunclody-Kilmyshall Drama Group.

The members staged their version of the ‘The Glass Asylum’ which was written by group member, Niall O’Muirí.

The group Chairperson, Rory Kinsella, said it was a special event because of the fact that it was an original work from a group member.

‘The Glass Asylum’ premièred over four nights in Bunclody last October and was the group’s entry into the All-Ireland One-Act Competition - which was another first for the group.

The group participated in five festivals and received a number of awards and nominations for the play which also received fantastic audience reactions.

The group performed the play last month in Wexford Arts Centre on behalf of Wexford Mental Health Association and the staging of the production in Enniscorthy brought the tour of the play to a fitting conclusion.

Mr Kinsella said everyone took great pleasure in performing the work, again, in support of ‘the excellent work being done by the Wexford Mental Health Association’.

He also said it’s a cause ‘that is very close to the heart of our author’.

The play was directed by Tommy Murphy and the cast included Tim Connaughton; Fergal Kelly; Rebecca Murphy; John Donoghue; Michael Dunbar and Chris Atkinson.

It told the story of a character named Ray and his insight into his daily life in a mental institution and his past experiences.

With dark humour and wit the group has taken great pride in presenting the play to capacity audiences throughout the country and are now looking forward to working on a new production.
