Kent to succeed Teehan in Leinster Council chair

-

CURRENT COUNTY Board Chairman Derek Kent will be occupying the hot seat at provincial level in three years’ time.

The Taghmon-Camross clubman was elected Vice-Chairman of the Leinster Council at the annual Convention on Saturday, having been nominated for the post along with Des Halpenny from Louth.

Pat Teehan from Offaly replaced the outgoing Jim Bolger (Carlow) as Chairman, after completing his three-year term as understudy.

Kent will now be the deputy for the Coolderry clubman’s tenure, before taking over himself at the 2023 Convention.

The new Treasurer is Colm Finnegan from Wicklow, while Pat Lynagh (Westmeath) was appointed P.R.O.

The Leinster Council executive for the next three years is completed by the Secretary, Michael Reynolds, who works on a full-time basis from their office in Portlaoise.

‘Our playing population has to be foremost in consideration of everything we do, at all levels of our Association, and as a consequence our games must be central to that,’ Pat Teehan said after his elevation to the chair.

‘The spend on games development continues to grow year on year and investment has now reached almost €6 million. The investment in Dublin has proven hugely beneficial, and the investment in the East Leinster project has also begun to show dividends.

‘We now need to look at the six remaining counties to ensure they are getting the resources they need in order to keep pace with the rest of the province.’

Derek Kent will be the 36th Leinster Council Chairman, following in the footsteps of previous Wexford incumbents P.D. Breen, Micheál Kehoe, Jimmy Roche, Jim Berry and Sheamus Howlin.
