- By CATHY LEE

A TOTAL OF 360 people turned out for the inaugural Gorey Business and Endeavour Awards take took place at the Ashdown Park Hotel on Friday, which saw the town celebrated for what it is best known for, its people.

Winners on the night included local charity Talk to Tom winning top in the charity and community group category, Sam Kennedy of Courtown RNLI who won Gorey Person of The Year, with Kevin Molloy Senior winning a lifetime achievement award.

Other awards on the night included young person of the year, best customer service, best shop front, retail business, entrepreneur, start-up business and green business.

Organisers Philip Cullen and Dave Howick on behalf of the Gorey Business Network wish to thank all who attended.

‘We want to say a massive thank you to all of our fantastic finalists as well as to our sponsors and of course the people of Gorey who made the very first Gorey Awards such a great event.

‘The Gorey Awards was brought to you in association with Gorey Business Network, with the next meeting taking place at 8.30 a.m. this Wednesday. Anybody interested in attending should contact us’.

The awards themselves were live streamed on Facebook for those who could not attend, and throughout the night attendees heard from key note speakers like John Warburton, Sinead Brogan of Gorey Cardiac First Responders, Ed Whelan and more.

Guests also enjoyed a sit down meal as the awards were given out, and all profits from this first event are to be shared between the five nominated charities.

These are Gorey Rangers, Courtown RNLI, St Aidan’s Services, Gorey Cardiac First Responders and Talk to Tom.

After this year’s sold out awards ceremony, organisers took forward to sitting down together to plan what comes next.
