Carnew show and sale is big success

THERE was great support for the 39th Carnew Mart Annual Show and Sale of bullocks.

The event took place on Saturday, January 25 ,in conjuction with the weekly sale. As usual, it was a great day out for farmers and their families. It saw a turnout of 1,200 head with an exceptional yard of quality beef and store cattle on offer. The trade was brisk with large attention of factory and farmer customers leading to a full clearance. A number of export customers were also present at the show and sale on the day.

The champion of the show was a 888 kg Charolais X bullock shown by Derry Rothwell, Tinahely. It sold for €2,400 to Tom Boland of Liffey Meats, Hacketstown, Co. Carlow.

Prize winners at the show were as follows: Best Cont. Beef Bullock: 1. Derry Rothwell 1 Chx 888kg at €2,500, 2. Peter Hynes 1 Lm Bullock 840 kg at €1,920, 3. Peter Hayden 1 Lm Bullock 672 kg at €1,580; Pair of Cont. factory Bullocks:

The second day of the 39th show took place on Saturday, February 1 with the sale of heifers and dry cows.
