Gorey’s Active Retirement look to the future following AGM

- By CATHY LEE

The AGM of Gorey Active Retirement saw members gather at the Ashdown Park Hotel to hear from special guest speaker pharmacist from Boots chemist, as well as see an exhibition of the latest creations from the art group within the club.

The members voted for their favourite paintings, having a huge 42 to choose from and vouchers were given out, donated by Gorey Framing.

The winners were Martha Noctor in first place, Cathleen Cullen in second place and Caroline Brophy in third place.

Guest speaker Marcus the pharmacist told the members about the facilities at the local Boots and provided information on the benefits of vitamins.

A new executive committee was formed, but PRO John Brophy explained that although the AGM was very well attended, there’s still more to do.

‘More members to support the committee are needed so if any members can spare an hour or two a week please contact any committee member,’ he said.

The committee now stands as follows: Frances Shaffery as chairperson with Mick Wakelin as vice, Sydney O’Reilly as treasurer with Ann Ward as secretary.

John Brophy continues his role as PRO, with Judith Clough in charge of music and entertainment.

Non executive committee members are Annie Slator, Colette Gillette and Eileen Coady.

The committee ask that members note that membership fees for 2020 are now due, and should be paid on Fridays at the Loch Garman Arms between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Gorey Active Retirement look forward to a busy 2020 ahead, and all bookings, payment and inquiries should be made in the Loch Garman Arms on Fridays.
