Cllr. McDonald has ‘no hard feelings’

- By MARIA PEPPER

Fianna Fail candidate Lisa McDonald is looking forward to getting back to work after a disappointing performance in a ‘perfect storm’ of an election - she polled 1,315 of her party’s 19,920 first preference votes and finished up with 1411 after receiving 60 transfers from Johnny Mythen of Sinn Féin.

Cllr. McDonald was the first to be eliminated, on the second count, along with Independent Bart Murphy who received 68 first preferences and secured an extra 35 from Mythen. She was one of four Fianna Fail candidates in the race, including re-elected TD John Browne, Malcolm Byrne who lost the seat he won in the by-election in November and Michael Sheehan.

‘It was disappointing. We ran a very ethical, honest campaign and I’m proud of my team and everyone who canvassed for me’, she said.

‘I have my business to run and I have my family and I’m looking forward to continuing to work as a councillor.

‘We ran a good campaign. I would like to thank everyone for being so kind and welcoming on the doorsteps. I love Wexford town. I have no hard feelings.’

‘I’m honoured to have had a great team, we ran a very positive campaign and I’m glad of that. Now it’s back to the job. I’m looking forward to getting back to the desk’, said Cllr. McDonald who has a solicitor’s practice in Rowe Street.

‘I’m just going to concentrate on my work, my family, on being a mother and working hard as a councillor’, she said.
