Class of 2019 is honoured

COLÁISTE BHRÍDE secondary school Carnew celebrated with the class of 2019 when they all came together in the Ashdown Park Hotel, Gorey for the annual Leaving Certificat­e awards ceremony which sees students rewarded for their achievemen­ts during their time in Coláiste Bhríde.

On the night, principal Linda Dunne recalled the many achievemen­ts of this enthusiast­ic, energetic and successful class, while Martina Winterboth­am outlined the activities of the Parents’ Associatio­n and spoke of funded projects that took place throughout the year.

Ms Dunne recalled how the theme of their graduation evening last year had been ‘New Horizons’ and these include employment, further education and apprentice­ships which have now began for the former students.

Guest of honour for the occasion was recently retired Eleanor Lee and she spoke about all that students had given to her throughout her career, making her years of service worthwhile and fulfilling.

She commented on how the class of 2019 had been a particular­ly pleasant and hard working group.

Award winners on the night were as follows: Parents’ Associatio­n Cup for Chemistry went to Sarah Mulhall, with the Parents’ Associatio­n Cup for Technology going to Eoin Kavanagh and Martin Kavanagh, Parents’ Associatio­n Endeavour Award went to Cormac Doyle while the Parents’ Associatio­n Cup for Music won by Ciara Breen and Aoife Breen.

Sarah Mulhall won three awards on the night, including the McGirr Cup for Biology, the Bank of Ireland Student Choice award as well as the Gregan Cup, student of the year.

Fiona Boland and Ellen Aylmer won the Myers Cup for History, while the Tom Healy Maths Cup went to James O’Keeffe.

The Lawless’ Hotel Cup for Home Economics went to Emma Katus while the Credit Union Cup for accounting was won by Chris Callanan and David Kemple.

Not only did Róisín Byrne win the Roberts Cup for Foreign Language, she also the Corn Scoile award for Irish with Ciara Shannon, who won the Good Fellowship Award.

Ella O’Gorman was named as the Michael Lawlor LCA student of the year and she also won the Kevin Ryan LCA General Education award.

The Lee Challenge Cup went to Emma Dunbar, with the Kevin Lee Cup for art going to Caitlin Black, while Leigh Ludgate won the Merit cup.

The Carnew Ironcrafts award for DCG went to Ben Hanney, the FBD Cup for Agricultur­al Science went to Martin Kavanagh and Kaytlin Stronge.

The Shillelagh GAA Cup for Sports went to Eoin D’arcy, while Bernadette Dunne won the award for LCA contributi­on.

The Paudge Brennan Cup for Business was won by Chris Callanan and John Doyle, while the Byrne’s/Londis Cup for Culture went to Ali Kavanagh and Molly Tobin.

Fintan Smith and Claudia Farrar won the Partner’s Cup for English, while the Kerry Foods Cup for Geography went to Emma Doyle and James Hedderman.

The Naylor Engineerin­g Cup for Engineerin­g was won by Paidi McGing and Eoin Kavanagh while the Corrells Cup for Constructi­on was won by David Doyle and Cliodhna O Connell.
