Splashing time for Slaney Sharks swimmers at Leinster meet

SEVENTEEN swimmers travelled to the National Aquatic Centre for the Leinster developmen­t meet recently.

With a total of ten girls and seven boys competing in 47 races, the swimmers excelled themselves with fantastic swims and personal bests.

Olivia Grennell (11), our youngest swimmer on the day, secured two personal bests in the 50m back in 49.40 (-1.04), and the 50m free in 44.27 (-1.62).

James Byrne (12) had a super 50m fly, achieving a personal best time of 43.95 (-10.55).

A further personal best in the 100m backstroke was achieved with a time of 1:35.89 (-3.42).

Sinéad Kehoe (12) had a great swim in the 50m back with a time of 46.55 (-1.75), and another personal best in the 50m breast of 1:02.68 (-0.91).

Muireann Murphy (12) swam a personal best in the 100m free in a time of 1:25.40 (-1.60).

Reuben Dempsey (12) had a personal best in the 100m free with a time of 1:27.79 (-0.21).

Fleur Gillot (12) swam three fantastic races with great personal bests in the 50m back of 43.04 (-6.08), 100m I.M. of 1:28.45 (-13.95), and the 200m free of 2:46.49 (-6.31).

Ellen Jordan (12) swam her first Leinster Gala and had a terrific P.B. in the 50m breaststro­ke with a time of 1:04.18 (-5.13).

Caleb O’Kane (12) swam his way to two great personal bests in the 200m free, taking off 9.51 seconds with a time of 3:13.15, and 4.94 seconds off the 100m back with a time of 1:43.76.

Ella Ennis (13) had two personal bests in the 100m free in 1:32.84 (-0.66) and the 100m I.M. in 1:36.68 (-2.26).

Sarah O’Leary (13) had three great swims with personal bests in all three races: 100 free in 1:18.41 (-6.34), 50m back in 45.99 (-0.70), and the 100m I.M. in 1:36.79 (-0.18).

Jack Burton (13) had a tremendous swim in the 200m free, taking off 5.79 seconds to come home in a time of 2:45.65. He also had a personal best in the 100m free with a time of 1:19.30 (-1.92).

Gemma Bourke (13) swam a personal best in the 100m free with a time of 1:28.14 (-0.88).

Harvey Montague (13) raced his way to three great personal bests in the 50m free of 32.99 (-2.07), 100m I.M. of 1:31.07 (-7.21), and the 100m free of 1:15.96 (-4.27).

Sarah Kehoe (14) had personal bests in two of her swims, with a time of 41.13 (-4.34) in her 50m back, and 51.93 (-0.63) in the 50m breast.

Jack Dempsey (14) is showing great form, taking off a staggering 18.90 seconds from the 100m I.M. with a time of 1:28.85. He had another great race in the 100m free with a time of 1:17.60 (-4.50).

Simon O’Driscoll (14) had his first Leinster Gala and swam the 50m back for the first time in 50.62. He also achieved two personal bests in the 100m free of 1:27.26 (-7.27), and the 50m breast of 51.84 (-2.54).

Georgia Wilson (14) swam the 200m free in a fantastic time of 2:36.77. She also took a staggering 14.90 seconds off the 200m I.M. with a time of 3:08.53, and had a time of 1:23.63 in the 100m back (-6.50).

Next up was the N.A.C. invitation­al L.C. meet where we had six swimmers competing in events. It was a fantastic day for the swimmers with personal bests, podium finishes, and Division 1 and 2 times achieved.

Katie Prunty (13) is in tremendous form, picking up gold in the 100m free in a time of 1:05.99 (-2.57), and silver in the 200m free in a time of 2:22.59 (-4.72).

She has now qualified in these swims for summer nationals (Division 1) along with her 50m free. She also swam a great 100m Ffy in a time of 1:21.57L (-5.04).

Fleur Gillot (12) also had a fantastic meet with podium finishes in all three races. She picked up gold in the 50m fly in a time of 39.65 (-2.55), silver in the 50m breast in a time of 47.91 (-3.94), and another silver in the 100m free in 1:15.31 (-2.06).

Emma Murphy (15) achieved her first qualifying time of the season for Division 2 in the 400m free in a time of 5:15.41. She also achieved first place and a gold medal in the 50m breast in 40.30 (-1.31), and a personal best in the 50m fly of 36.06L (-0.33).

Ava Byrne (14) had a podium finish, taking bronze in the 100m back in a time of 1:16.84. She also had a personal best in the 200m I.M. of 2:52.01 (-0.09).

Jack Burton (13) swam a fantastic 200m free with a time of 2:46.75 (-2.10), and a 50m free with a time of 34.75L (-2.70).

Alexi Gillot (15) swam a great 50m fly in a time of 35.89 (-0.72), just outside a podium finish in fourth place.

Coaches Liam and Nicky congratula­te all swimmers on their achievemen­ts.
