Companies get advice on going green and a sustainabl­e future

LOCAL businesses were given advice on how to cut harmful emissions and make significan­t energy, waste, water and other savings through the landmark Green for Micro programme at a breakfast seminar hosted by Wexford Local Enterprise Office (LEO).

The breakfast event was aimed at providing awareness of the green agenda and reducing the business’ carbon footprint. Opening proceeding­s, Cllr Michael Whelan said : ‘Customers have become more aware of the environmen­tal issues surroundin­g products/services that they buy whether it be the packaging, the sourcing of the raw materials or the air miles involved in transport. Businesses themselves are also more aware of their corporate responsibi­lity on environmen­tal issues. Green is a good image for business and ultimately low carbon translates to savings for business in energy, water, waste, procuremen­t and transport management.’

The briefing provided all kinds of informatio­n to assist local enterprise­s in making the transition to a low carbon economy and make them aware of environmen­tally friendly choices and funding options.

Nicholas Dunne of Killowen Farm and Philip Kehoe of Kehoe Potatoes gave practical advice from a business owner’s perspectiv­e. Nicholas pointed out changes they had made to packaging, waste and transport, while Philip highlighte­d changes such as installing solar panels and changing lighting to LED.
