Companies get advice on going green and a sustainable future
LOCAL businesses were given advice on how to cut harmful emissions and make significant energy, waste, water and other savings through the landmark Green for Micro programme at a breakfast seminar hosted by Wexford Local Enterprise Office (LEO).
The breakfast event was aimed at providing awareness of the green agenda and reducing the business’ carbon footprint. Opening proceedings, Cllr Michael Whelan said : ‘Customers have become more aware of the environmental issues surrounding products/services that they buy whether it be the packaging, the sourcing of the raw materials or the air miles involved in transport. Businesses themselves are also more aware of their corporate responsibility on environmental issues. Green is a good image for business and ultimately low carbon translates to savings for business in energy, water, waste, procurement and transport management.’
The briefing provided all kinds of information to assist local enterprises in making the transition to a low carbon economy and make them aware of environmentally friendly choices and funding options.
Nicholas Dunne of Killowen Farm and Philip Kehoe of Kehoe Potatoes gave practical advice from a business owner’s perspective. Nicholas pointed out changes they had made to packaging, waste and transport, while Philip highlighted changes such as installing solar panels and changing lighting to LED. The event certainly provided food for thought and for further information you can contact the LEO.
