GRANDPAREN­TS’ DAY

On Friday last, the 7th. of February, Boolavogue National School hosted its annual Grandparen­ts’ Day. The pupils’ grandparen­ts, parents, friends and relatives were invited to a special Mass to celebrate the role of Grandparen­ts in the pupils’ lives. After the special Mass at 10.00am, the adults were invited to partake of refreshmen­ts in Boolavogue Hall and view an exhibition of artwork on display.

Don’t forget to join Monageer/ Boolavogue GAA, Camogie and Ladies’ football clubs for the ACTIV8 keep fit iniative. You can take part in the 5km jog/walks, mentored circuit training, Parent & Children sessions and Pilates classes. The hill walking and trail hiking will be taking place soon so please contact any committee member for further details. Everyone in the community, young or old, fit or interested in getting a little fitter, is invited along. As well as being a great way to a healthier lifestyle, you will meet the nicest people along the way!

WELL DONE CATHAL!

Well done to Cathal Walsh, who has starred for I.T. Carlow in this year’s Sigerson Cup campaign, holding on to the wingback position throughout the campaign. The IT Carlow team disposed of some of the big names in varsity football to reach the final. And even though his team did not win the All-Ireland, going down gamely to a Dóchas Éireann - DCU side, top heavy with Dublin county players, Cathal’s excellence and consistanc­y has been recognised with a call up to the Wexford senior football panel, playing in a recent intercount­y challenge game.

On Sunday the 2nd. of February, the men’s ‘A’ team, understren­ght due to illness and injuries, were away to Adamstown and lost by a single goal, 2-3. The game was played in challengin­g blustery conditions and Liam Walsh scored our first goal, a scorcher from 20 meters out. Matthew Dunne added a consilatio­n penalty conversion near the end but despite the lads best efforts they were unable to find the equaliser to share the points.

The previous day, Saturday the 1st of February, the Youths’ team travelled to Gorey to take on Gorey Celtic. Despite dominating the game, they could not find a winning goal and had to halve the points on a 2-2 final scoreline. They did everything but score, hitting the crossbar four times and saw certaintie­s rebound off the upright also. Adam Meehan got the first goal from a well deserved penalty while Dylan Brady headed home a spectacula­r goal from a corner shot.
