ROWING CLUB AGM

Edermine Ferry Rowing Club is holding its AGM on this Tuesday, February 11, in Bree Hall at 8 p.m.

BREE MACRA

Congratula­tions to the Bree Macra Capers Team which won the national final in Ovens, Co Cork recently. Team members were Conor Byrne, Emma Byrne, Sarah Byrne, Niamh Cloke Rochford, Cait Doyle, Kasey Doyle, Sinéad Doyle, Tadhg Harrington, Amy Long, Rachel Long, Aoife O’Brien, James Parle and Johanna Wickham. The Bree show, entitled ‘Promoting Positive Mental Health’, was produced by Sinéad Doyle, who also won the Best Producer Award.

SCHOOL CARETAKER

Scoil Eoin Baiste, Galbally has a vacancy for a caretaker position in the school. This is a part time position that operates under the Wexford Developmen­t Tús programme. Applicatio­ns can be made by calling the school at 053 9247644.

The school celebrated Grandparen­ts Day on Friday, January 31, with Mass at 10 a.m. followed by refreshmen­ts afterwards in the school. The children greeted all their guests with excitement and made one and all feel very special. We would thank everyone who took the time to join us in this special celebratio­n. More importantl­y we remember all those who could not be with us. We hope everyone enjoyed the day as much.

The children enjoyed a very informativ­e talk from the Wexford SCPA Animal Welfare officer on Monday, February 3.

The children are also enjoying gymnastic lessons and GAA hurling training will be starting soon.

The school is currently getting new windows installed, and this work should be completed by the beginning of March.

Scoil Eoin Baiste is now taking enrolments for 2020/21.

SCOIL MHUIRE NS BALLYHOGUE

Scoil Mhuire NS will be holding their open night on Thursday, February 13, from 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. Any families in the community who may be interested in enrolling in September 2020 are invited to attend. We look forward to seeing you.

BALLYHOGUE GAA

Ballyhogue GAA Club and Ballyhogue Ladies’ Football Club dinner dance takes place on Friday, February 28, in the Riverside Park Hotel at 8 p.m. Music is by Denny Davitt and the Heartbeats. Tickets cost €30 and available from Melissa Dawson 087 9627866.

Lotto – The numbers drawn in the recent GAA lotto draw were 3, 19, 21 and 27. No jackpot winner but four match-three winners – John Kavanagh, Ena Doyle, Charlie and Sinéad Parnell, Chris Daly. Next jackpot €1,800 and the next draw is on February 19.

YOGA CLASSES

Yoga Classes with Grace have resumed in Bree Community Centre Dance Studio on Mondays at 8.15 p.m. and on Thursday mornings at 10.15 a.m. Sessions are €10.

BREE AC NEWS

Indoor athletics has resumed in Bree Community Centre on Thursdays at 7 p.m. for Little Athletics and at 7.45 p.m. for under 10 years and upwards. Well done to all athletes who competed in the Leinster Indoor Championsh­ips in Athlone recently. Medal winners in 60m Hurdles were Ciara Laffan (Gold), Jayden Kenny (Silver), Katie Doyle (Silver), Abbie Doyle (Silver) and Kiera Wilson (Bronze). Abbie also won a bronze medal in the 60m and Jayden also won a bronze medal in the Long Jump. Next outing for the athletes will be the Leinster Indoor Relay Championsh­ips. to the recipients while Tony Dempsey introduced them. Ger Doyle was chairman of the organising committee and he and all involved deserve the highest praise for the excellence of the occasion.

COMMUNITY CENTRE

The annual general meeting of Oulart Community Centre was held recently, with 15 of the outgoing committee in attendance. Apologies were sent by the few who were unavoidabl­y absent and they expressed their willingnes­s to serve for the coming year.

The past year was reviewed, the work undertaken was praised, the annual report was read and signed, the finances were reported to be in a satisfacto­ry state and some work to be undertaken in 2020 was discussed.

Outgoing officers and committee members were returned unopposed and included chairman Martin Dempsey, Vice-chairman Aidan Finn, Hon. Secretary Theresa Sinnott, treasurer Audrey Tate and PRO Breda Jacob. Committee members present were Eddie O’Dowd, Martin Dempsey, Tina McGraynor, Mary-Geraldine Buttle, Tina Rossiter, Mgt. Gray, Mairead McAuliffe, Peter Kennedy, Fran Davis, Statia Dempsey, and Michael ‘Scott’ Doyle.

NEW GAA PUBLICATIO­N

Limerickme­n, Ciarán Crowe and Joe Lyons have compiled a 250 page hardback book entitled 20/20 Vision (Hurling and Limerick) that includes excellent but hitherto unpublishe­d coaching material compiled in the early 1980s by Michael O’Grady (former manager of Wexford and other county Senior Hurling teams).

Among the star players who at that time contribute­d articles were Eddie Kehir, John Connolly, Noel Skehan, Eamonn Cregan and Michael Jacob (‘The role of the defender’) while in the chapter ‘Then and Now’ present-day stars Richie English, Mike Casey,

Dan Morrissey etc comment on the relevance of the earlier research.

The book 20/20 Vision also contains material written by wellknown team-managers, coaches, referees etc and has a lengthy article on Limerick Hurling Statistics. The mayor of Limerick launched the book in the City Hall on Tuesday, February 4.

OULART ICA

Oulart ICA got great photograph­ic coverage in the local papers when they held their Post – Christmas Lunch in Kilcannon Garden Centre Restaurant recently. The Guild’s February meeting will take place in Oulart Community Centre on the third Monday of the month. The next Federation meeting will be held in the Riverbank House Hotel on February 24.

As the ICA was founded 110 years ago there will be a special lunch in Whites Hotel on February 9 with dancing to follow. A number of members from the Oulart Guild will attend. The One Day Craft School will be held on April 4 in Coláiste Bríde, Enniscorth­y. The ‘ICAs Got Talent’ competitio­n will be held on Thursday, April 30, in Camross Hall. ICA Diaries and Badges will be available at the next Federation meeting.

BEREAVEMEN­T

The sympathy of the community is extended to Ann and John Sinnott and family, Ballinroad on the death last Wednesday, February 5, of Ann’s uncle, the late John Alcock, St David’s Terrace Oylegate.

John is mourned and will be sadly missed by his wife Chrissie, son Ken, daughter-in-law Bernadette, grand-children James and Kate, sister Kit, nieces, nephews and friends.

The funeral Mass was celebrated in St David’s Church, Oylegate on Saturday after which burial took place in the adjoining cemetery. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

The Eucharisti­c Adoration in St Mochua’s Chapel, Oulart will continue each Tuesday from 9.30 a.m. till 5 p.m.

OPERATION TRANSFORMA­TION

Oulart-The Ballagh GAA Club, through its Healthy Club Officer, Breda Flood has signed up, once again for the RTÉ Operation Transforma­tion ‘Ireland Lights Up’ that was so successful in 2019. Beginning on Monday, January 13, and continuing till February 24, the lights at the Upper Pitch will be on Monday nights from 7 p.m. till 8.30 p.m. to enable walkers/runners to participat­e. People are asked to sign-in so that the numbers taking part can be recorded.

BINGO

The GAA Bingo is held in Oulart Community Centre every Sunday night, beginning at 8 p.m. Books are €10 with valuable cash prizes. The jackpot now stands at more than €400. We would ask as many people as possible to support the bingo because not only does it act as a fundraiser, it is also a great way of making and meeting friends and parishione­rs.

GAA/CAMOGIE REGISTRATI­ON.

There was a Club Registrati­on night on February 4 and another registrati­on night will be held in March. Adult members of Oulart-The Ballagh GAA Club are reminded that if they wish to have a vote at the next annual general meeting they must have paid full membership before the end of March.
