Mental Health regulator to host public event

MEMBERS of the public from across Co Wexford are being invited to attend a special open forum being hosted by the Mental Health Commission at Clayton Whites Hotel on Thursday night.

The body responsible for the regulation of Ireland’s in-patient mental health units, the commission is hoping to open a discussion on the future of regulation of mental health services in Ireland and will provide the opportunity to meet with and engage with the regulator of the service.

‘This event is open to all those who would like to meet some of the people who run the Mental Health Commission, hear about our work, and engage with us about local and national issues,’ said the Chief Executive of the Mental Health Commission, John Farrelly. ‘It’s also a chance to hear what the Commission does, and what it is responsible for regulating.’

‘The Mental Health Commission has a role under law “to promote, encourage and foster the establishment and maintenance of high standards and good practices in the delivery of mental health services”.,’

Mr Farrelly said.

‘In fulfilling this role, we will continue to work with the services that put the person first, while also targeting low-quality services and using our powers to intervene and reform these services without fear or favour.’
