24 hour long aqua-spin makes a splash for the third year running
THIS year’s annual 24-hour Splashathon saw people flock to the Ashdown Park Hotel in droves.
The event which sees people take to the pool and undertake an hourly session on a spin bike for charity received great support from the local community. FOR the third year running, all slots were filled prior to the event to the benefit of the Cycle Against Suicide schools’ programme Headstrong, which all participants raised money for through sponsorship and donations.
Not only did participants enjoy the craic in the pool among friends, listening to some great tunes from DJ Ciano was on the decks throughout they also enjoyed food and refreshments, as well as time out to relax in the sauna and steam room.
A spokesperson for Club Ashdown said ‘We would like to thank everyone who took part, sponsored and donated to our 24hr Spinathon. It was a massive success. Special thanks to Joe and Catriona, it wouldn’t have happened without them, and huge thanks to team Ashdown for all their hard work’.
Organiser Joe Dixon said that a lot of different special moments took place on the day.
‘Although we are still collecting sponsorship cards we think we are up on last year, so we raised over €6,000.
‘People travelled from Westmeath, Carlow, Dublin but the support from across North Wexford was fantastic, from Craanford to Gorey to Kilmuckridge.
‘There were so many different groups there to support each other, from families, businesses, community groups and individuals.
‘It shows that there’s such a wide variety that are affected by mental health, that’s really the thing.
‘The atmosphere was fantastic all day, it was never stagnant and there were so many special moments but one came when a young lady walked in by herself and donated money on her 17 th birthday’.
Organisers thanked all the hotel staff and all involved.
