- By BRENDAN KEANE

ENNISCORTHY Vocational College is encouraging its students to embrace their creative side now that the first days of spring have arrived.

Students are being encouraged to participate in an initiative titled #SprINK20 through which they create a drawing based on a theme inspired by this time of the year.

It’s an initiative aimed at encouraging students to get creative while being mindful, de-stressing and enjoying nature.

It’s inspired by an a programme titled #inktober which is a movement started by Jake Parker which encourages artists to take a prompt every day and create a drawing. The drawings are then uploaded to social media using the aforementioned hashtag.

A spokesperson for Enniscorthy Vocational College spoke to this newspaper about the current initiative and highlighted that #inktober was ‘hugely popular JCSP school libraries around the country’.

‘It’s one of a number of creative initiatives put together by the JCSP Library Project,’ said the school spokesperson.

‘Students are encouraged to take a prompt a day, or dip in and out, and they send a photo of their drawing to their school librarian, Éadaoin Quinn,’ she added.

Some entries are posted on the library twitter page, @enniscorthyvlib, and small prizes will be presented when school returns.

The spokesperson said everyone is encouraged to get involved, whether they fancy themselves as artists or not.

The whole school community of students, their families, and staff members can email photos of their drawings to eadaoinquinn@wwetb.ie

#SprINK20 is one of the new initiatives by the JCSP library project under the banner of #CreateToEscape20.

As soon as schools closed librarians began to put together the programme to support students, their families, and staff members as everyone adapted to distance teaching and learning.

‘A weekly creative writing competition has been launched, which local author Caroline Busher is supporting,’ said the school spokesperson.

‘There is so much out there that it is easy to get lost in all the offerings so this is a good start,’ said the spokesperson.
