Gorey Active Retirement offers some tips to help keep busy in isolation

-

AS regular activities and meetings of Gorey Active Retirement have now stopped until further notice, members are told to follow Government and HSE guidelines on ‘cocooning’ and should ideally self-isolate.

But keeping the mind and body healthy and active has never been as important, and Gorey Active Retirement has come up with some suggestions around indoor and household tasks that anyone can do to keep busy.

In the garden, the top tips for spring are to clear the rubbish, prune the trees and bushes, trim the hedge, plant some flowers or vegetables like carrots, beans, potatoes or peas.

It’s a great time for DIY jobs, so the group suggests that you try your best to fix that fence or the leak in the garden tap but, most importantly, get out in the fresh air and take a seat to pass some time in the sun.

Next on the household agenda might be the garage.

Gorey Active Retirement suggests having a good clear out, before washing the car, painting the door or the floor or even getting creative in making a bird nesting box or perhaps a bird feeding table.

If it’s a wet day, you can stay indoors but get cleaning.

Maybe freshen up one or two bedrooms with a coat of paint, do some jobs you’ve been putting off by taking each room at a time.

All about keeping up activities, the group suggests taking up a hobby like painting or art, with plenty of help to be found online. Relax and play a board game, or maybe get some ironing done.

In terms of advice for members, Gorey Active Retirement suggests that older people order their food and supplies online or by phone and have them delivered. Pay by card if possible to avoid handling money.
