Ashdown 10,000 daily steps challenge is a hit for the club

-

MEMBERS of Club Ashdown at the Ashdown Park Hotel in Gorey have been keeping busy during the Covid-19 pandemic, with the gym and fitness team setting the challenge of completing 10,000 steps daily for seven days.

Although the gym and leisure centre itself has been closed due to Government restrictions for just over a month now, the team wanted to continue to encourage clients as well as members of the public to keep fit and active as the challenge was open to all.

Gosia Tomewo of Club Ashdown said that being active in a challenging time is all about improving your mood.

‘In this situation at the moment, people have no access to the gym or the equipment but it’s very important that they keep active. I’ve been working with people in a fitness environment for years, but the 10,000 steps challenge is something you can do whenever you want, at your own pace, so it’s something that’s achievable.

‘It’s not that hard and it’s a nice thing to have a goal. You have a feeling of accomplishment when you’ve completed it and it makes your mood better’.

The people of Gorey got behind the campaign, which encouraged them to try and get some fresh air where possible and to stay active and focused on health and fitness even while working or studying from home.

Although the seven days have now passed, new online challenges look set to continue.

‘We got a lot of enquiries on social media towards the end of the challenge. It’s motivating people as it’s something simple.’
