Work continues behind closed doors at Seal Rescue Ireland

BUNSCOIL LORETO Primary School enjoyed its very first online arts week when students took part in online tutorial workshops from their homes with children’s writer Richie Conroy and the legendary Don Conroy among others over five days.

The students enjoyed a wide variety of creative activities especially designed for them, which were facilitated by Bunscoil Loreto’s Creative School’s programme with Creative Associate Laura Ní Fhlaibhín, school coordinator Niall Qullinan and school Principal Aileen Kennedy.

Ms Kennedy said that the week-long event was a fantastic success.

‘The pupils really engaged with the tutorials and worksheets provided and we were delighted with the results. We had a broad range of responses from pupils and all put in their best work. It has been an overwhelming success,’ she said.

Students created characters as well as spring scenes during the week and one senior infant, Brian Nolan, even decorated his front window with a message urging people to ‘stay at home’.

Over the course of the week, the children enjoyed listening to graphic designer and illustrator Catherine Geaney who led them through a series of illustration workshops, leading to a collaborative colouring book of the children’s work.

Wexford-based photographer Pádraig Grant devised a ‘stay at home’ photography tutorial and tips package for the youngsters while Kilkenny-based designer Carrie Lynam taught the students imaginative ways to create with cardboard and paper.

Throughout the week, the children relaxed and enjoyed music from Wexford-based dance artist Becci Whelan.

While all are looking forward to the school reopening, for now, links to these activities are available online. Visit www.bunscoilloreto.scoilnet.ie and search ‘Creative schools online art week’ to find out more.
