A NUMBER of apparent random incidents in the early hours of Saturday morning resulted in a significant amount of damage being caused to three vehicles in Gorey in addition to fire damage to a container located to the rear of the town’s Iceland store.

Gardai estimate the total amount of damage caused is in the region of €70,000.

A spokesperson for the gardai said the a car and camper van were burned in the Mill Green Estate area of the town while the third car was burned at the driveway of a private residence.

It’s believed the attacks were random incidents and that there was no connection between any of the vehicles.

The gardai also said that in addition to the damage to the Iceland container a small amount of damage was also caused to a garda patrol car while the gardai were attending the incidents.

However, the garda spokesperson said that damage was minimal.

The gardai arrested a suspect near the scene of the third incident - with all the crimes being committed within a relatively short distance from each other.

The suspect was brought to Enniscorthy Garda Station where he was detained for questioning under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 2004.

Meanwhile, Thomas Nolan, of no fixed address but whose last known address was in Courtown, appeared at Kilkenny District Court over the weekend charged with criminal damage under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act.

At the Kilkenny court, the man in his 30s was remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison.

He was charged in connection with the burning of two cars and a camper van in different locations in Gorey town in the very early hours of Saturday morning.

He is due to appear by video link at Wexford District Court this morning [Tuesday].
