Hutch now one of the family at the Egan’s

MARGARET EGAN never considered herself to be a dog person. But that all changed nine years ago, when a glance at the North Wexford SPCA’s ‘Adopt a Pet’ feature resulted in the loveable Hutch entering her life.

‘My husband Brian saw Hutch advertised in the Gorey Guardian in August 2011 and I wasn’t too sure. We went down to the centre and as soon as he saw me, Hutch sat in front of me. It was love at first sight for both of us.

‘He was found along with another older Jack Russell and they believe that he was the more dominant dog. They were found by the dog warden tied to a lamp post. Hutch was very traumatised and it was several weeks before he would allow any male member of the household near him,’ she said.

Although it took time, Hutch finally found his comfort zone and is now a big part of the Egan family.

‘We will have Hutch in our family for nine years in August and they believe he was around a year old when he was found. He has been my shadow from day one and he sees himself as definitely my dog. It has been an absolute pleasure having Hutch in our family, my son Aaron who is 23 has aspergers and Hutch and himself bounce off each other as both can be hyper.

‘Hutch is afraid of loud noises so he won’t walk around the town, he prefers walks in the beach and in the woods, especially climbing the rocks in

Courtown,’ said Margaret.

In 2015, Margaret ran the Women’s Mini marathon for the North Wexford SPCA and always speaks highly of the team there.

‘It truly is a great place for anyone to go and make a dog or cat a part of their forever family,’ she said.
