Locals remembered Sarah as they completed 10K run

- By CATHY LEE

MORE THAN €4,000 has been raised for Make A Wish Ireland after about 40 locals took part in the virtual mini marathon and individually as well as in their family groups walked, jogged and ran ten kilometres around Gorey in honour of the late Sarah Robinson.

Sarah’s mum Majella Robinson was key in organising the event, which saw people of all ages get their runners on for the cause and keep the message ‘fly high Sarah’.

Majella thanked all who took part on the day describing it as a great success.

‘It was overwhelming the response we have received for this charity and we want to thank you all so much for taking part. We know we had one very proud girl looking down on us all during the day,’ she said.

Last year, Sarah’s friends completed the mini marathon in her honour wearing and raised money for Sarah’s cancer treatment, and before she passed away in July of last year, Sarah asked her family to take part in the 2020 marathon on her behalf.

Sarah herself wanted to raise funds for Make A Wish Ireland and help wishes come true for other young people, after the charity treated her and her family to an unforgettable trip to Iceland in 2019. Those memories of the blue lagoon, glacier hike and the sky lighting up by night is something that whole family will cherish forever.

With €4,780 raised through online donations with a contribution from the Gorey group, a spokesperson for Make A Wish Ireland expressed gratitude to all involved.
