2020 class won’t be forgotten

- By CATHY LEE

THE Board of Management, Principal and staff of Creagh College have sent a huge congratulations and thank you to its class of 2020, who finished up their time at school from the safety of their own homes.

Although they will always be etched in everyone’s minds as the ‘Class of the Pandemic’ or the class who escaped the exams, they will be fondly remembered for much more, say their peers.

While the typical ‘exam weather’ was upon us, instead of intensely preparing for looming exams, all at Creagh College have had the time to pause and reminisce about the past five or six years.

‘We teachers have had the pleasure of watching these youngsters grow and mature into the fine young ladies and gentlemen we see before us. Their achievements thus far are too many to list, and we have no doubt that we will be hearing about this group’s successes for many years to come,’ said teacher Julie Tobin.

‘Life long friendships have been forged, giving this group a unique and special quality which made working alongside them a wonderful experience for all’.

She explained that the global pandemic changed everything, but the sixth years adapted and transitioned seamlessly.

‘The Covid-19 pandemic led to a significant change in teaching and learning as we knew it but the sixth years were well able to cope with challenges they faced over the last couple of months, and the uncertainty surrounding their exams and the future.

‘Principal Paul Glynn was hugely impressed with the strength of character and resilience displayed and said that this will stand to them all in whatever path they chose to take from here’.

The school community all agreed that this is definitely not the way any of them had envisaged saying goodbye to this fabulous bunch as they had been looking forward to all the usual rites of passage events every other year got to enjoy.

Year Head Mr O’Loughlin spoke about his group being ‘kind, caring and funny’ and says he will miss interacting with the group on a daily basis.

His words echo the sentiments of all the staff in the school, who genuinely will miss this particular group.

In a short Facebook video saying goodbye, the staff recalled their favourite memories and share their snippets of advice for the coming months.

Until such a time that it’s safe to hold your real graduation and awards ceremony, the management, teachers and staff wish to say a huge well done and thank you.

‘We wish you health, happiness and success in the future. Remember our door is always open, even virtually when not allowed in reality,’ said Julie.
