JOHN CURTIS RIP

The whole community was deeply saddened to hear of the death of John on Thursday, June 11. Our deepest sympathy to his wife Pauline, Children Conor, Caoimhe, Niamh and Aoibhinn. Parents Mogue and Anne, Brother Pat, Niall, Brendan, Sisters Caitriona, Nuala and Áine, extended family, neighbours and many friends. John was laid to rest in Raheen Cemetery following a private family funeral. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

PEGGY MCNAMARA RIP

The death occurred on Sunday, June 7, of Peggy McNamara, Upper Ballyhack (née Furlong, Templeshel­in). We send our condolence­s to the Furlong and McNamara families on the death of Peggy. May she rest in peace.

JOSEPHINE O’DOWD RIP

Our condolence­s to Catriona and Ray Whelan and family, Fairfields on the death of Caitriona’s sister Josephine O’Dowd of Ballysimon, Monageer. A private family funeral took place on Wednesday, May 10, she rest in peace.

IMPORTANT MEETING

Councillor Pat Barden is holding an important meeting this Wednesday, June 24, in Adamstown Community Centre at 8 p.m. Chair. s and Secretarie­s of all clubs, organisati­ons and committees in the parish are invited to attend. Location and developmen­t of a Creche and future use of Adamstown Hall will be the top of the agenda for this meeting.

RESUMPTION OF MASSES

On behalf of St Aidan’s in Clongeen and Littlecull­enstown churches, we are delighted to welcome the resumption of masses beginning on the weekend of 4th/5th July.

In accordance with government guidelines, parishione­rs are asked to maintain social distance of 2 metres upon entering and exiting the Churches, While also observing social etiquette with regards to coughing/sneezing. Parishione­rs are also required to sanitise their hands upon entering/exiting the Church.

Due to the 2 metre guideline there is limited on seating arrangemen­ts within the Church. So please use only the seats available to you–each bench allows for two persons only or a family may be seated together within the one bench.

A one way system will be in operation & parishione­rs are asked to follow directions­on arrival and in attendance. Help in the work of sanitising the Church will be required after each public gatherings, so please consider becoming involved. Thank you for your patience we look forward to being reunited in the not too distant future.

DEEPEST SYMPATHIES

We offer our deepest sympathy to Dave Burke in Clongeen on the recent death of his brother Tony at his/mothers residence in Artane in Dublin. Tony used to be an occasional visitor to Clongeen and would have been know to a few people around, especially the guys in the Over 35’s group and other friends and relatives of Dave and Denise.

He is survived by his two daughters Laura and Charley who will miss him greatly. Sympathies to his brothers Derek, Philip (who occasional­ly played Over 35’s) Stuart and Dave. Also to his sisters-in-law Mandy, Kate, Samantha and Denise along with his nieces, nephews, relatives and many other friends both here and in Dublin.

CHURCH NEWS

MASSES RETURNING – Friday, July 3, is the First Friday of the month and also the First Day of the return of weekday Masses, post Covid 19. Following that initial Mass, the Status Quo returns, with: – Normal Mass Times: Saturday, Vigil 7 p.m., Sundays 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Holydays: Vigil 7 p.m. and 10 a.m. on the day;

Tuesday to Fridays at 9.30 a.m. No Mass on Mondays.

New church rules – (for ‘Our Lady’ Star of the Sea Church, Duncannon) As we prepare to return to a ‘new’ normal, and in keeping with Government regulation­s, please be mindful of the following.

Holy Water Fonts are not in use. Observe social distancing and remain two meters from other people (except members of the same household). Wash your hands with soap and water before you leave home. Use the hand sanitiser provided as you enter and leave the church.

Follow the one-way system. Only use every second pew starting from the first pew at the back. Feel free to wear a face mask and gloves. Do not touch any statues. Do not shake hands. Cover your mouth if coughing and use a tissue if sneezing.

Do not, under any circumstan­ces, discard any face masks, gloves, tissues etc., in or around the church, cemetery or car parking area.

For reception of Holy Communion stand at a distance from the priest or Eucharisti­c Minister and extend you hand. Holy Communion will not be distribute­d at the back of the church.

Thank you to those who have contribute­d during this lockdown time. Please bring your envelopes up to date, as those who send our bills did not cocoon themselves, I noticed, despite me telling the postman that I want to practice social distancing from all those bills.

NB If you are displaying any cold or flu, or flu-like symptoms, please do not enter the church buildings – contact your local doctor.

ANNUAL PATTERN

The annual Pattern, scheduled for Saturday, July 4, will take a different course this year. Due to the Coronaviru­s Pandemic and the Government regulation­s pertaining thereto, and in order to assist with social-distancing, Fr John will bless the graves two or three days after the scheduled date, so, please ensure that the graves are as clean and tidy as you’d like them to be, by Saturday, July 4.

CEMETERIES

In order to keep our Cemeteries looking their best, visitors are earnestly requested not to discard rubbish in the Cemeteries. Our Cemeteries are sacred resting places and it is our duty to care for and respect these places. Used wreaths, flowers and other unwanted items, when removed from graves, should be brought home with you. Thank you.

LOCAL BUSINESSES REOPENING

With Covid restrictio­ns being slowly lifted a number of new and existing business are opening their doors. A new café, Gralinn has opened in the main street while Dwyer’s hopes to open shortly. Neville’s Gastro Pub will also be re-opening on July 1 while Baginbun Lodge will reopen on July 2.

From June 29 the Hook Lighthouse, the Lightkeepe­rs Café and the outdoor dining option the Seahorse will all open seven days per week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with last access to the grounds at 4 p.m. and dining closing at 5 p.m. All visitors must pre-book a free grounds access pass at hookherita­ge.ie.

ON THE HOOK MAGAZINE

This year’s edition of the On the Hook magazine is now on sale in Dillon’s shop, Fethard. Edited by Liam Ryan and his team of co-editors it is full of the usual mixture of interestin­g articles and photos. It is a must have item for anyone in the area. Make sure to get your copy before they are sold out.

FETHARD ST MOGUE’S GAA

It looks like the current Covid restrictio­n will be soon be lifted and we will see activity back on the GAA pitches in the near future. Plans are in place for a much shortened adult championsh­ip which will see groups reduced to three team. It is also hoped that the ever popular Cúl Camps will return this year either in late July or early August.

VISIONS OF THE HOOK PENINSULA

Hot on the heels of his involvemen­t in the On the Hook magazine local author, photograph­er and historian Liam Ryan has published 2020 Visions of the Hook Peninsula. Full of many colourful scenes from the Hook Peninsula the book is on sale in Dillon’s shop for €30.

A Meals delivery service is available from Raheen Family Resource Centre every Tuesday. Raheen Family Resource Centre provides an affordable, profession­al, confidenti­al counsellin­g service for children, young people and adults.
