Soccer at local level to return July 18-19

All Cups are cancelled, while several teams withdraw

-

THE WEXFORD Football League season will resume on Saturday, July 18, with 14 youth league games to be decided, while a full programme of adult fixtures has been pencilled in for the following day.

The league executive have made the decision to cancel all domestic cup competitions, namely the Wexford Cup, Neil O’Sullivan Cup, Billy Browne Cup, Gwyn Jones Cup and Youths Cup, to ensure that leagues can be completed in the truncated season, which must end by September 14.

Gorey Rangers have an FAI Junior Cup quarter-final to look forward to and that game, away to Dublin side Usher Celtic, is due to be played on Sunday, July 26.

In the O’Neill’s LFA Junior Cup fifth round, Gorey Rangers will play Kilkenny outfit Freebooters at Fair Green on Sunday, August 2, at 2 p.m., while on the same day North End United travel to the Oscar Traynor Centre to face Kilmore Celtic in the quarter-final at 1 p.m.

Meanwhile, a number of teams have withdrawn from their respective divisions. Leaders Fethard Rangers have called time on their Division 3A campaign, while Rathnure United, who are also in the mix, eight points behind the pacesetters with three games in hand, have also withdrawn from that division.

Elsewhere, Rosslare Port (Division 2), Bree United and Cushinstown (Division 3), Carne FC and Bridge Rovers (Division 4), The Ballagh United, Enniscorthy Town, Curracloe United and Castledockrell (Division 4A) have also withdrawn.

In the Youths section, title challengers Gorey Rangers have withdrawn from the Premier Division, while Glynn Barntown ‘B’ and Taghmon United have both ended their participation in Division 3.

Wins on 3-0 scorelines have been awarded to the teams that were due to face them, while in cases where two sides that have been withdrawn were still to play each other, 1-1 draws have been awarded.
