Knife is produced during burglary at family home
GARDAI in Gorey are seeking the public’s help to identify three young men involved in an aggravated burglary after they entered a house in the village of Camolin on Sunday evening, February 21.
At approximately 8.30 p.m., three masked men entered the family home and demanded money, and one of these men was armed and produced a knife during the incident.
Gardai confirmed that a small quantity of cash and belongings were taken from the scene before the men subsequently left in a getaway car.
Nobody was injured during the course of events, and it is believed that a mother and her young children were in the house at the time.
Sergeant Stephen Ennis described the circumstances of what happened at the family home as dramatic, and that there is no suggestion at this time that this was anything other than an unfortunate random attack.
‘It was a particularly traumatic experience for the victims and no arrests have been made at this time. We are appealing for anyone with information or any road users including motorists, cyclists and pedestrians who were in the Camolin area between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. and who may have camera footage to make this available. We are also seeking information from anyone who may have seen a silver/green Mondeo car in the area,’ he said.
As investigations are ongoing, gardai said that anyone with information can contact Gardaí in Gorey at 053 9430690, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
Councillor Joe Sullivan said that he hopes such an incident is a once-off.
‘I don’t expect to see it repeated but it’s just unfortunate for the victims of that crime on Sunday night. It’s hugely shocking and I’m disappointed, but the victims bore the brunt of what took place as they were subjected to the ordeal. Camolin is a quiet village and this was something opportunistic that could happen anywhere. It’s important that we keep our local garda station well resourced, as this type of crime is something we don’t want to see being common in our area. Regular garda patrols go a long way towards preventing these things’.
