AINGEALA FLANNERY

Aingeala Flannery is a writer whose work has been published and shortlisted in Ireland and beyond; most recently, she won the 2019 Harper’s Bazaar Short Story Competition. Aingeala is a longstanding contributor to IMAGE, and was named IMA Journalist of the Year 2014 for work published in the magazine. “The way I was then,” she says, “if somebody told me they liked my writing, or that I should write a book, I’d be mortified. It was as if they could look inside me and see my repressed desires, all the things I wanted to say that couldn’t be said by a journalist.” That changed when Aingeala was accepted into the MFA in Creative Writing at UCD, where she was “pushed and stretched and inspired” by Anne Enright. She reconnects with her mentor on page 64.

Claire Prouvost

Claire Prouvost is an illustrator and designer based in Dublin, whose signature style sees her represent female characters in a bold, minimalist and colourful style. In this issue, she illustrates Kate Brayden’s powerful piece on endometriosis in Ireland on page 116. “Although not a sufferer myself, I know a good few women affected by this condition,” says Claire. “I think it’s vital that we build awareness about it and fight for a better care system in Ireland.”

GODFREY DEENY

We’re sounding the fashion claxon here at IMAGE as we welcome Irish fashion critic Godfrey Deeny as a regular columnist. Armagh-born, Paris-based Deeny is the former editor of Vogue Hommes and currently the international editor-in-chief of FashionNetwork.com. Friend to all the fashion greats, The Business of Fashion lists him as one of the most influential people in the world for his “thoroughly informed, opinionated and sporadically merciless” writing style. “I’ve been a great fan of IMAGE Magazine for years,” says Deeny, “so I am delighted to share my insights into the power, glamour and glory of fashion as seen up close and personal.” Turn to page 27 to soak up Godfrey’s front row view.

NATHALIE MARQUEZ COURTNEY

Nathalie Marquez Courtney is a writer and photographer who is as passionate about the printed page as she is the latest game-changing app. “I think we’ve moved beyond the ‘paper vs screen’ conversation and have started seeing them for what they really are: different, but complementary mediums, each with something unique to offer us.” Read Nathalie’s round-up of the latest work and tech news on page 125.
