A FACIAL UNIQUE TO YOU

TREATMENTS THAT TARGET THE AREAS MOST IN NEED TO ENSURE OPTIMUM RESULTS MEAN YOU GET...

- REPORT: LINDA MAHER Neelu treats men and women and specialises in mature skin. Facials from €50, Neelu’s Beauty Salon, 25 Liffey Street Upper, Dublin 1, 01 878 8132, neelus-salon.com

The best thing about getting a facial from Neelu is that you don’t tell her what you want, she tells you what you need. If pure relaxation is your aim then she offers that but after 30 years in business, where she excels is in targeted facials, designed to address your skin’s issues.

We spend time talking about my skin concerns and my routine. I explain to her the different skincare products I use. There are quite a few – as you can imagine, with my job I am asked to try many products.

Sometimes skincare practitioners are impressed when I tell them the vast array of things I use. Not Neelu. Each product I mention, she nods then asks me why I use it. What is its aim? How is it benefitting me?

For many of them, I don’t have an answer.

She tells me to hop up on the bed and she carries out a thorough assessment of my skin. We go through my medical and skincare history and she listens to my concerns and goals. We talk about my general health and lifestyle – no stone goes unturned.

Having drilled down as deep as possible, she creates a tailored treatment to get the best results for my skin. Every treatment and plan is different – and that’s the whole point.

She starts with an exfoliating facial. This feels like a really deep cleansing for the skin and she explains that it is removing dead skin and deep grime, and giving my skin an even and clear surface for her to work on.

Then she does a Lumi Light facial, which replenishes, rejuvenates and repairs your skin using a relaxing light treatment. She places a cold, wet mask over my face, clearing the way for my nose and mouth. It’s a shock to the skin but not unpleasant. Then she places a kind of roofshaped machine over my whole head and turns on the lamps.

Lumi light uses different colour lights to even pigmentation and boost collagen, which plumps up the skin. Frequencies and wavelengths

from three different visible light spectrums reach the layer where damaged skin cells lie. These are then re-energized and repaired.

This activity also stimulates rapid cellular turnover, smoothing and renewing the skin surface and detoxing the skin.

Not finished there, next she does an oxygen facial. This uses calming hyperbaric oxygen to push hydration deep into the skin and works instantly to lift, tone, plump and reduce wrinkles. The oxygen is packed with anti-ageing ingredients like vitamin A, C and E, aloe vera and green tea.

It also contains the moisturising and hydrating properties of hyaluronic acid, which dramatically improves and maintains the look and feel of your skin.

She then moisturises my skin and applied a sunscreen, while insisting that regular use of the latter is an essential element of any skincare regime. One I’d been neglecting until now. She recommended that I get a facial every four to six weeks to secure optimum skin health and radiance.

Best of all, with most of these treatments there is no down time, so I was able to go straight to the office to show off my newlyglowing skin.
