PLAY PEEK-A-BOO

The sheer trend can be so sophisticated and sexy if done right. Team this perfect example with leather trousers or a maxi pencil skirt and heels.

OK, let’s be honest. Deep down we all love a little drama, and women are especially good at creating it – then spending hours minutely dissecting who said what and why. As a result, there’s a new backlash on social media from women who are very anti drama, such as American former lawyer @melrobbins – a TEDx motivational speaker, author and podcast host. Instagram’s algorithm loves her ‘walk away from drama, love yourself, take risks, don’t get caught up in the darkness’ messages.

‘Hi this is your friend Mel’, she often begins her preachy posts.

My take? Mel, first of all, you’re not my friend – I don’t even know you. And cut the BS, this is your business and you make a good living from it.

What’s more, I bet even Mel’s up for a good gossip off camera.

As I get older, I find I have less energy and headspace for female drama, but that’s not to say

I’m infallible. Like the rest of the country, I was gripped by our cover girl Coleen Rooney’s The Real Wagatha Story on Disney+ about her epic public fallout with fellow wag Rebekah Vardy. The documentary reveals how Rooney (see page 16) plotted step by tiny step how she was going to prove Vardy (who was always sending her sweet texts) was really a two-faced snitch who was leaking stories from Rooney’s private Instagram account to The Sun newspaper.

Rooney says she spent years trying to work out what Vardy was up to and admits it ate her up to the point where her family and friends were worried about how depressed she seemed.

This really is female drama at its most toxic. And the fact that this saga ended up in court, and we are watching from our sofas so many months on, shows just how addictive drama can be.

Of course, not all drama is toxic, and the sort I’ll always have energy and headspace for is wardrobe drama. Here are my go-to looks for getting everyone talking this season…

Double up on stripes Try teaming a pinstripe trouser suit with a Breton rollneck.

Switch up your LBD Choose a little red dress.

Trust velvet to add va-va-voom A velvet trouser suit with gold heels is a winning party look.

Give your blazer a new twist All it takes is a chunky belt around the middle.

Look to metallics Silver footwear and handbags (see right) are a terrific way to pep things up at this time of year.
