‘I’ll hold off paying my bill until we get clarity’
MOTHER-OF-TWO Laura Haugh says she will hold off paying her bill until clarity is provided on the future of Irish Water.
The Mummypages.ie commentator hasn’t paid her €260 water charge yet as, due to an error, she did not receive the €100 grant for the initial bill.
Ms Haugh, from Stillorgan, south Dublin, said: ‘I’ve been chasing that for the last six months to try and find out why it hasn’t been corrected by the system.
‘That’s why I didn’t pay the bill – because I wanted that €100 to be knocked off. I’m still chasing it as an issue. Do I intend to pay it now that there’s a rumours that it’s to be scrapped? I’ll probably hold off.’
Ms Haugh, mother to Lucy, four, and James, six, said she believes taxes on households and individuals are high and doesn’t think we should have to pay for additional utilities such as water and roads.
She explained: ‘We pay for energy that we use in our homes, but the water – it’s a basic living requirement and much like the roads.’
