‘We are a freaky family but we love each other’
AISLING O’Loughlin has opened up about her split from her partner and how she is intent on keeping her ‘freaky family’ situation harmonious.
The former Xposé presenter and Nick MacInnes parted ways last year but are in each other’s lives on almost a daily basis.
The parents of sons Patrick, five, Louis, three, and eight-month-old Joseph together amicably called time on their relationship and Clare-born Aisling insisted the break-up was uncomplicated. ‘I have love, just in a different kind, a different way,’ she told the Irish Daily Mail. ‘We are free spirits and we were never going to subscribe to convention, so we’re figuring it out our own way.
‘He’s here everyday, so there’s no cold turkey and there’s no one bolting. Everyone is different and it was time to make sure the kids are happy and having balance.
‘We’re a freaky family, but we love each other. I don’t feel like I’m single really – I’m just dedicated to the family. I don’t feel I always need someone in my life.’
Since her split and leaving TV3, Aisling, 38, has thrown herself fully into her new lifestyle and fashion website Exquisite.ie. She set up the site following the commercial broadcaster’s reshuffle last summer.
‘I’m busy, trying to tap into my entrepreneurial streak. I’ve a lot to do and it makes you feel alive,’ Aisling said. ‘It was a reaction really.
‘Sometimes you feel your back is against the wall and you have to delve deep, and see what are your talents are. The website is all about stuff I’m interested in, so I’m indulging my passions and it’s exciting.’
While she no longer works at TV3, Aisling has not ruled out a return to the small screen in the future. She said: ‘It’s a small market in Ireland, but I do think if the right job came along at the right time, I’d jump at it. I haven’t pitched anything yet though, as my focus is the website.’
