THE Irishman allegedly stabbed to death by his fiancée in Australia was facing a series of assault charges here, the Irish Daily Mail can reveal.

David Walsh, 29, had at least three arrest warrants for assault charges outstanding against him, including for the alleged assault of a woman in 2012 and an alleged assault on a female garda, also in 2012.

Mr Walsh, a father-of-three from Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, had failed to appear in court in relation to five separate assault charges against him.

His fiancée, Tina Cahill, 25, has been charged with his murder in Sydney, Australia, in the early hours of last Saturday morning.

It is alleged that Mr Walsh was stabbed to death with a broken bottle outside the home the couple reportedly shared.

He was found with a stab wound to his neck after police were called to a row involving a number of people at a house on Watson Road, Padstow, Sydney.

The couple had only become engaged on New Year’s Eve and posted photographs on social media celebrating the fact.

It is alleged that Ms Cahill, who is from New Ross, Co. Wexford, and two of her friends had brought a man back to the house before a row took place.

After the alleged stabbing, Ms Cahill was arrested and questioned along with a 36-year-old Australian man from the Revesby area of Sydney.

Ms Cahill was later charged with murder. The Australian man was released without charge.

Ms Cahill was reportedly ‘too distressed’ to apply for bail on Sunday over her fiancé’s killing.

Mr Walsh is believed to have moved to Australia around three years ago as a number of bench warrants were outstanding in Ireland for his arrest.

On October 1, 2012, he was charged over the alleged assault of a female garda at Enniscorthy Garda Station. He failed to appear in court and a warrant was issued for his arrest in July 2013. Earlier in 2012, on January 1, Mr Walsh was charged in relation to the assault of a garda.

He again failed to appear at Gorey District Court and the case was later struck out.

Also in 2012, Mr Walsh was charged with allegedly assaulting a woman in The Paddocks area of Enniscorthy that May.

He failed to appear in court in July 2013 and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.

Again, in April 2012, he was charged with allegedly assaulting a man in Bellefied, Enniscorthy.

He did not appear in court that October to face the charge.

In a later incident, Mr Walsh was charged in relation to the assault of a man at Burger Mac in Wexford town in June 2014.

Again, he failed to appear in court and a warrant was issued, in September 2014, and then again re-issued in March 2015.

Mr Walsh’s death has shocked locals in his hometown who have set up an online fundraising page to assist his family with the costs for the repatriation of his body. So far almost $6,000 Australian dollars have been raised.

Mr Walsh and Ms Cahill enjoyed a whirlwind romance since first meeting each other in Australia.

On Valentine’s Day earlier this month, just four days before his death, Mr Walsh took to his fiancé’s Facebook page to describe her as ‘one of a kind’.

He wrote: ‘Never have I met someone that brings so much happiness to those around them. I love your smile and the way you laugh and all your little quirks that make you who you are, because that person is one of a kind. You are so incredibly beautiful on the inside and out, I feel so lucky to have you. Happy Valentine’s Day babe.’
