A DRUNKEN row over horse racing led to the fatal stabbing of a middle-aged man in Dublin, it has emerged.

Mark Richardson, 48, suffered fatal wounds when he was knifed at a party in his home on Thursday.

A source said: ‘There was a lot of drink taken and there was a row over betting on Cheltenham. Unfortunately a stabbing occurred and there were fatal consequences.’

A man in his mid-40s remained in Garda custody last night over the stabbing, which occurred in the victim’s home at Harmonstown Road, Artane, north Dublin, at around 7.30pm on Thursday.

Mr Richardson was rushed to Beaumont Hospital but pronounced dead a short time later. He was stabbed at least once in the chest.

He had previously been homeless, but had recently moved to Artane with his partner Aisling Kenny and their three children: Molly Rose, nine, Noah, six, and Daryl, three. It is believed he also had other children from a previous relationship.

His partner, Ms Kenny, previously spoke to the media about the difficulties of living in emergency accommodation.

She said: ‘One of my sons and my daughter go to school in Coolock, yet the council offered us accommodation in Harold’s Cross way over the southside. The kids are under enough pressure as it is and we want somewhere closer to school.’
