EVEN by Donald Trump’s standards, it is an unlikelysounding controversy, but the controversial US president has now been accused of having a run-in with One Direction.

According to singer Liam Payne, the US president kicked the band members out of his hotel after they refused to meet his daughter.

The group, which has been on hiatus since early 2016, were staying at Trump Tower in New York.

Mr Payne, 23, said: ‘Trump actually kicked us out of his hotel once.

‘Wake them up right now’

You wouldn’t believe it. It was about [meeting] his daughter. He phoned up our manager and we were asleep.

‘He said, “Well, wake them up” and I was like, “No”, and then he wouldn’t let us use the underground garage. Obviously in New York we can’t really go outside. New York is ruthless for us.’

Payne was referring to the mob of fans who would swarm around the group if they ever used the hotel’s public entrance. It is not clear whether Mr Trump would have been referring to Ivanka or Tiffany, his daughters.

Mr Payne said: ‘So [Trump] was like, “Okay, then I don’t want you in my hotel.” So we had to leave.’

The singer heaped praise on his pregnant girlfriend, former Girls Aloud star Cheryl, 33, describing her as the girl he worshipped as a shy teenager.

Reflecting on their relationship, he told Rollacoaster magazine: ‘Obviously I have the most beautiful girlfriend in the world and she’s absolutely amazing. She’s been my dream girl since I was younger. She’s so ace.

‘She is a wonderful, wonderful person and it’s amazing to have someone who can relate to so much of things – someone who’s taken greater steps than me.

‘She fully supports me. We’re super-happy. It’s a very personal, precious time for us. I’m still learning. I’m only 23.’
