CLASSY QUIGLEY EARNING STRIPES

- By COLM BRADLEY

FERMANAGH deservedly took the two points on offer with a strong second half performance paving the way to victory. Losing their top scorer in the League, Tomas Corrigan, after only seven minutes didn’t alter the course of the game for the home side as seven different players managed to get on the scoresheet — Seán Quigley top scoring with 0-8. Just a point separated the sides at the break. Eoin Cleary and David Tubridy were the sole scorers for Clare in the first half while at the other end, Barry Mulrone, Quigley, Ryan Jones, Corrigan, Eddie Courtney and Paul McCusker all raised white flags. Fermanagh swept into an early four point lead after the break with Aidan Breen coming to the fore with a brace before Clare drew level with a goal and a point inside a minute. The goal was wonderfully worked with the ball played through four pairs of hands before an unselfish pass from Jamie Malone left Keelan Sexton with the simplest of tasks to palm the ball into the net. Instead of kicking on, however, Clare were completely dominated for the final 25 minutes of the game with the home side scoring seven points to the visitors’ two. Quigley was on song with his free kicks and 45s and Fermanagh were deserved winners as six teams are still left fighting off the drop in Division 2.
