LEAGUE FORMAT
‘I’ve been pushing this since the start. Even when we beat Kilkenny at the start. It’s hugely ironic that a team that finishes 10th overall is rewarded with a quarter-final place. If you finish fourth in 1B you’re in a quarter-final, fifth [in Division 1A], possibly on goal difference or head-tohead, you’re in a relegation play-off. The subsequent speculative disastrous relegation match can impact on your team psychologically, which it did to us three years ago. I don’t think it would this year.
SCRAPPING THE MUNSTER CHAMPIONSHIP
‘I would. If you had Championship-like fervour attached to the League section come Championship at the right time of the year, I think it would revolutionise the whole thing. I really do. It would be brilliant. ‘Now if there was some way of politically involving Munster and Leinster with that…they do it at club level down in Waterford. They have an Eastern Championship and a Western Championship.
DAVY FITZGERALD AT WEXFORD:
‘In fairness to Davy (above), he’s making a massive impact where he is. I am not surprised the impact he is making, to be honest with you. ‘I went down to watch Kilkenny and Wexford in the Walsh Cup, semifinal, in the rain there in January. ‘There was a massive crowd in New Ross, and in fairness to him, he is box office.’
ON MANAGING ANOTHER COUNTY
‘I just don’t know how I’d feel about that. I haven’t allowed myself to think about what it would be like, to be on another county’s line. ‘One thing I would say is I’m kind of an obsessive character, I’d be thinking about hurling whether I’m involved in it or not.’
