Three generations caught in atrocity
THREE generations of the same family were caught up in the attack, it emerged last night.
Schoolgirl Sorrell Leczkowski, 14, died in the bomb blast, while her mother, Samantha Leczkowksi, 44, and grandmother, Pauline Healey, 64, were badly hurt.
All three had been at the concert and were leaving when the bomber struck.
Last night Sorrell’s aunt, Stacie Healey, 32, revealed that Mrs Healey remained unconscious, in a critical condition in hospital after undergoing hours of surgery for shrapnel wounds.
Writing on a fundraising page, she wrote: ‘After the Manchester attacks my mum was seriously hurt, she has had a 15-hour surgery to remove shrapnel from her body and has compound wounds to her arms and legs.
‘She is still not awake from this, we are a long way from home and my dad will not leave her side, he is selfemployed and will not work for months because my mum will be here for several weeks, above all this he and my mum lost their granddaughter Sorrell in the attack.’
Elaine Silson, head teacher of Allerton High School, in Leeds, confirmed Sorrell’s death in a letter to parents.
She described the Year 9 pupil as ‘a delightful member of the school community.’
‘She enjoyed her studies, had a lovely group of friends and was a real asset to Allerton High School,’ Mrs Silson said.
Tributes were also paid on Facebook. Janet Pearson posted: ‘My heart goes out to all the family at their sad loss of Sorrell. There are no words.’
Friends have set up an online appeal for funds to help Sorrell’s mother. It had a target of raising £1,000 but quickly passed £8,000.
