Off-duty policewoma­n killed on a night out with her husband and their children

A SERVING policewoma­n was among those killed in the blast, it emerged yesterday.

The officer, who has not been named but worked for the Cheshire Constabula­ry, was off duty and at the concert with her husband and two children.

Last night there were reports that her husband was in a critical condition in hospital and their children had also been hurt.

Others confirmed to have died in the explosion include Megan Hurley, 15, from Liverpool, whose brother, Brad, 20, was seriously injured.

In a post on Facebook, Megan’s aunt Maxine Benson, 53, said: ‘My poor sister and Mike are destroyed beyond words... it doesn’t seem fair for two kids to go to a concert and only one returns. How in God’s name could this happen to such a lovely family... heartbroke­n xx’

Public relations manager Martyn Hett, 29, was killed two days before he was due to start a two-month ‘holiday of a lifetime’, friends revealed. He had booked to fly to the US yesterday. It is thought that Mr Hett was at Monday’s concert with friends as a leaving party.

Writing on Twitter, his boyfriend Russell Hayward said: ‘We got the news last night that our wonderful iconic and beautiful Martyn didn’t survive. He left this world exactly as he lived, centre of attention... I love you Martyn. I always will. X.’

Angelika and Marcin Klis, from York, were named among the dead by the Polish embassy in London.

Mr Klis, a taxi driver, and his wife went to restaurant in Manchester as their daughters Patrycia, 12, and Alex, 20, attended the concert and died as they arrieved to pick the girls up. A family friend said: ‘It’s just so sad – these girls are now orphans. They are just crying and crying. The family were just a loving and perfect family – they would do anything for you. It’s absolutely horrible.’

Friends Alison Howe, 45, and Lisa Lees, 43, both from the Oldham area, were killed as they waited for their children in the foyer. Miss Lees’ brother Lee Hunter confirmed her death on Facebook. A relative of Mrs Howe condemned the bomber, saying: ‘They took a caring beautiful mum and step mother away from us all she was amazing to us all x love you loads Alison Howe xx.’

Georgina Callander, 18, John Atkinson, 28, and eight-year-old Saffie Roussos were among the first victims named on Tuesday.

Six people remained missing last night, with their relatives fearing the worst.

School worker Wendy Fawell, 50, of Otley, West Yorkshire, went to the gig to collect her 15-year-old daughter Charlotte.

‘These girls are now orphans’

Courtney Boyle, 19, and her mother’s partner, Philip Tron, 32, had gone to the Arena to pick up Courtney’s younger sister, Nicole, who was unharmed.

There was also no news of Liam Curry, 19, a sports science undergradu­ate at Northumbri­a University, and his girlfriend Chloe Rutherford, 17. Eilidh Macleod, 14, from the Scottish island of Barra, is unaccounte­d for.

Her friend Laura McIntyre, 15, is badly injured in hospital.
