Dolores’s lingering back pain stops Cranberries tour

- Irish Daily Mail Reporter

CRANBERRIES singer Dolores O’Riordan’s lingering back pain has forced the band to cancel 14 concerts across Europe.

In a statement issued by the band yesterday, they said they are ‘very sorry’ for the inconvenience and disappointment caused to fans, but stressed that ‘Dolores’s health is paramount’.

The rock band – famous for songs such as Linger and Zombie – said the decision wasn’t taken lightly.

The band said their leave of absence from stages across the UK, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands and France over the next four weeks is due to medical reasons associated with Ms O’Riordan’s back problem.

‘Most regrettably, Dolores O’Riordan has been instructed by her doctors to immediately cease work for the next four weeks for medical reasons associated with a back problem.’

The band then gave a list of the shows they have had to cancel.

A spokesman for the band said they are ‘working hard to try and re-schedule these shows to future dates’ and will post further news updates on social media sites as soon as possible. ‘We sincerely hope that you will hold on to your ticket until we can update further but if not, please go to place of purchase for your ticket to be refunded. We are very sorry for all and any inconvenience and disappointment that this causes our fans, the decision has not been taken lightly but Dolores’s health is paramount,’ they stated online.

At present, concerts up to June 16 have been cancelled. A further 21 gigs have been scheduled after that date across Europe and North America.

The Limerick group recently played Dublin, Belfast and London. Last September O’Riordan also was forced to cancel her first live gig since her appearance in Ennis District Court on violent air-rage charges. She had pleaded guilty to assaulting a garda and two members of airport police during an air-rage incident at Shannon Airport in November 2014.

Ms O’Riordan also pleaded guilty to resisting or wilfully obstructing the garda in the execution of his duty. The mother of three avoided a conviction in March 2016 after paying €6,000 to the court poor box. At the time of that scheduled concert, she was said to be in ‘excruciating pain’ and suffering from a ‘bulging disc’ in her back.
