Boy’s tribute climb for brave little Gavin

- By Jacqueline Hogge

A SIX-YEAR-OLD boy will climb Croagh Patrick this Sunday in memory of his best friend Gavin ‘Superman’ Glynn, who passed away in 2014.

Frank Killilea, from Corrandulla near Tuam, Co. Galway, is a day younger than Gavin, and will climb the mountain with his father John to raise funds for the Gavin Glynn Foundation.

Gavin’s parents, John and Jayne Glynn, set up the foundation in their son’s memory after the four-year-old lost his battle with a rare form of cancer in 2014.

The charity helps families whose children have been diagnosed with cancer and need to go overseas for treatment.

The two boys friendship began when Frank’s father built Gavin a Superman bed, after building his own son a car bed and seeing how much joy he got from it.

Frank’s mother Edel described the Glynns as ‘incredible people’.

‘When we lost our daughter Sienna in April 2015 they were one of the first to visit us in the hospital, bringing us a bag of things we needed and just being there to support us,’ she said.

‘We thought it would be nice to do something on what would have been Gavin’s seventh birthday.’

John said the family are ‘thrilled’ to have so far raised almost €1,300 before Frank heads up the mountain.

He added that the work the Glynn family is doing ‘is a wonderful tribute to their amazing little boy’.
