MRS BROWN’S BOYS D’MOVIE Sunday, 9.30pm – RTÉ One

MRS Brown is divisive... or should that be D’visive? But while there are those who will surely cringe at this ‘Irishness for foreigners’, there are others who believe Brendan O’Carroll is a national treasure. Here Agnes fights to defend a famous Dublin street market from being sold off to developers.

LIAR Monday, 9pm – UTV

THERE can be few higher recommendations than that this programme was written by Harry and Jack Williams, who penned The Missing, one of the most compelling dramas of recent times. Downton Abbey’s Joanne Frogatt, pictured, and Ioan Gruffudd (Fantastic Four) are our protagonists, Laura and Andrew – a teacher and a widowed father whose son is one of her pupils. They go on a date which changes their lives. We are told that it will keep us guessing about what happens next. Part one of six.

THE SEARCH FOR A NEW EARTH Monday, 9pm – BBC2

STEPHEN Hawking is a rare breed, a true icon in an age when our leaders and public figures have lost our respect. Here, he is joined by engineering expert Danielle George and former student Christophe Galfard to see if there is anywhere else in the Milky Way that we could live. Looking at Mad Kim’s actions in North Korea, I’m signing up for a seat on the spaceship.

STELLA Wednesday, 9pm Sky One

WELSH dragon Nessa Jenkins was one of the comic creations of the Millennium and it is the most difficult trick to pull off to follow up a much-loved sitcom character with another. That said, I was willing to give Ruth Jones’s Stella a fighting chance. Alas, the feisty nurse and single mother started grating halfway through the first series. This, the sixth series, is thankfully the last.
