THE OPEN-PLAN TUBE CARRIAGE
■ The Stock train that was targeted by the bomber yesterday can carry almost one thousand people - most of them standing.
■ They were the first London Underground trains to have walk through carriages - which means they have no connecting doors
■ The new rolling stock replaced ageing tube trains on the District Line - which had separate carriages and were built in the 1970s and 1980s.
■ In total, the new trains can hold up to 951 passengers, with just 256 seats and 695 standing.
■ The older D-stock trains had more seats but held just over 800 passengers, 20% f ewer.
■ In the UK similar trains also operate on the London Overground - which operates orbital commuter lines aroun d the capital
■ Walk-through trains are increasingly common around the world, including in Paris, New York, Toronto and Tokyo.
