■ The Stock train that was tar­geted by the bomber yes­ter­day can carry al­most one thou­sand peo­ple - most of them stand­ing.

■ They were the first London Un­der­ground trains to have walk through car­riages - which means they have no con­nect­ing doors

■ The new rolling stock re­placed age­ing tube trains on the District Line - which had sep­a­rate car­riages and were built in the 1970s and 1980s.

■ In to­tal, the new trains can hold up to 951 pas­sen­gers, with just 256 seats and 695 stand­ing.

■ The older D-stock trains had more seats but held just over 800 pas­sen­gers, 20% f ewer.

■ In the UK sim­i­lar trains also op­er­ate on the London Over­ground - which op­er­ates or­bital com­muter lines aroun d the cap­i­tal

■ Walk-through trains are in­creas­ingly com­mon around the world, in­clud­ing in Paris, New York, Toronto and Tokyo.
