Shame on ‘mean’ HSE
IT was the phone call Isabel Terry dreamed of. Yesterday, the Cork woman was told the organs she needs for a double lung and heart transplant had become available, and an air ambulance was sent from a hospital in the UK to collect her.
This is no good reflection on the HSE, which refused to pay for her to travel there for assessment. A private donor had to step in to cover the cost of that flight, and the hospital is covering yesterday’s flight and the operation.
What a sad indictment of the HSE, seeing it sit back and letting our neighbours pay for what we surely can afford ourselves.
