YOU had to pity the poor showbiz reporter who had the misfortune to grab Jim Carrey on his way into a New York party this week. Poor Catt Sadler looked like she wished the red carpet would open up and swallow her after she’d breezily asked what brought him to the glitzy bash. ‘I wanted to find the most meaningless thing I could come and join,’ a gaunt-looking Jim replied. ‘So here I am. There’s no meaning to any of this.’ Mind you, in the deeply shallow whirl of New York celebrity parties, that probably counts as high praise indeed.
