‘I LOVE the geometrical shape of the ice crystals in the Fortress of Solitude. Their shape seemed to be at odds with the Lego grid so I knew it would be a challenge to build something that was strong enough to not collapse when the model was moved. I wanted to capture the ethereal, awesome beauty of the fortress. When my Lego Her Majesty’s Theatre sold unexpectedly in London it had been due to go on exhibit in Denmark four weeks later at the Lego World event in Copenhagen. When I told them I could no longer exhibit it they said, “We’ve got this space reserved for you” and I said, “I’ve another model nearly finished”. I actually hadn’t started it! I had just used up a huge amount of tan, grey and red bricks making the theatre but I had plenty of white and clear parts which were suitable for the Fortress of Solitude.
