Rockers lend voices to Irish World Cup bid

ROCK legends U2 and Bob Geldof are on board to help the IRFU land the 2023 Rugby World Cup later this month. Ireland’s delegation heads to London on September 25 and will be spearheade­d by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Brian O’Driscoll along with IRFU chief Philip Browne. Part of their bid presentati­on will involve videos of support from the world famous musicians. Geldof is due to read a poem by WB Yates, ‘The Lake Isle of Innisfree’. Ireland are up against France and South Africa as they attempt to host the Cup for the first time.
