McManamon the super-sub from heaven
Age: 30 Club: St Jude’s Championship debut: 2010
WHAT’S THE STORY?
The ultimate supersub. Surely a firstteam regular in any other county. Has been damned, at times, by his own match-winning heroics off the bench.
TRACK RECORD IN FINALS:
Immortalised in the eyes of Dublin fans with the matchturning goal in the 2011 All-Ireland final against Kerry, the very day the pendulum swung Dublin’s way in terms of that one-sided relationship — and a whole lot more. Had to make do with an impact role in the 2013 decider against Mayo and didn’t make the scoresheet, Bernard Brogan doing the real damage with 2-3. Was held in reserve again in 2015 as Dublin ground their way to victory against Kerry. Started the drawn final against Mayo last year but endured a frustrating afternoon and was replaced himself but held on to his place for replay and put in a big shift, landing a point before making way for Cormac Costello, who stole the show.
WHAT ARE HIS PROSPECTS OF A REPEAT?
Has slipped down the pecking order this year, overtaken by the claims of Con O’Callaghan, Eric Lowndes and Niall Scully which means he has had to fight for game time with the likes of Paul Flynn, Bernard Brogan and Diarmuid Connolly. Typically explosive impact last time out against Tyrone, cracking a shot off the crossbar.
